What is the Stabilizing Mechanism of the Latarjet Procedure?

ثبت نشده
چکیده

INTRODUCTION: The Latarjet procedure is one of the common procedures with excellent clinical results for treating patients with anterior instability of the shoulder. Recently, it has also been used as a bone-grafting procedure in patients with a large glenoid defect. To date, “sling effect of the subscapularis muscle” and “bone block effect of the coracoid process” have been considered as the main stabilizing mechanisms of this procedure. However, the precise contribution of each of these mechanisms is still unknown. The purpose of this study was to determine the stabilizing mechanism of the Latarjet procedure in both the end-range and mid-range positions of the shoulder.

Does the dynamic sling effect of the Latarjet procedure improve shoulder stability? A biomechanical evaluation.

INTRODUCTION Glenohumeral instability with glenoid bone loss is commonly treated with the Latarjet procedure. The procedure involves transfer of the coracoid and conjoint tendon, which is thought to provide a stabilizing sling effect; however, its significance is unknown. This study evaluated the effects of the Latarjet procedure, with and without conjoint tendon loading, on shoulder stability ...

The Bristow and Latarjet procedures: why these techniques should not be considered synonymous.

BACKGROUND Recurrent shoulder instability is commonly associated with glenoid bone defects. Coracoid transfer procedures, such as the Bristow and Latarjet procedures, are frequently used to address these bone deficiencies. Despite the frequent synonymous labeling of these transfers as the "Bristow-Latarjet" procedure, their true equivalence has not been demonstrated. Therefore, our purpose was ...

Mini-Open Latarjet Procedure for Recurrent Anterior Shoulder Instability

Anterior shoulder instability is a common problem. The Latarjet procedure has been advocated as an option for the treatment of anteroinferior shoulder instability. The purpose of this paper is to explain our surgical procedure titled "Mini-open Latarjet Procedure." We detailed patient positioning, skin incision, subscapularis approach, and coracoid fixation. Then, we reviewed the literature to ...

Biomechanical Comparison of the Latarjet Procedure with and without Capsular Repair.

BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to determine if capsular repair used in conjunction with the Latarjet procedure results in significant alterations in glenohumeral rotational range of motion and translation. METHODS Glenohumeral rotational range of motion and translation were measured in eight cadaveric shoulders in 90° of abduction in both the scapular and coronal planes under the fo...
